Camberwell Green : 01/06/2021
Camberwell Green Community Parklands is a project driven by local residents, ratepayers, parents, business people and representatives of community organisations who joined together in 2017 to plan the restoration of parkland adjacent to Camberwell Primary School.
Currently a large area of Crown Land is being used as a commuter car park for the Borondara Council offices and Civic Centre.
The primary school Junior and Senior Campuses are separated by a road causing significant traffic congestion during drop off and pick up times. Closing off the centre section of this road, providing a link between the two campuses, and converting the car park back into parkland will enable the area to become a large open space to be used by the school and the local community.
As a parent and passionate advocate for improving open space around the school Graeme joined the Steering Committee and offered his services on a voluntary basis to create the initial concept plans and vision for the project.
The team worked tirelessly for several years promoting the proposal within local council, State Government, the school and at various community events.
In May this year we were delighted to hear the Victorian Government had allocated $1.76M for this project.
It will be fantastic to watch this project progress and become a vibrant community green space in the future.
